Douglas Trent
– Executive Director

Graduated with honors in Environmental Sciences with emphasis in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Kansas / USA, Douglas is an honorary director of “The Wildlife Center” in the United States. He operates SCDC – Sustainable Community Development & Conservation, and is a member of the group of experts of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). He created the RPPN Jaguar Ecological Reserve in the Pantanal, a project that now sustains some 50 families.

Douglas is worked as a consultant for the governments of Uganda, Tanzania, Uganda and Venezuela, among others. He is a consultant for the NGO “Defenders of Wildlife” in the US and Mexico. He is President of the NGO Focus Conservation Fund, and Founder / President of Focus Tours, Environmentally Responsible Travel. Douglas is a international speaker and instructor of international workshops.

He is also the author of several articles and book chapters on ecotourism and biodiversity, including publications in the Yale University Bulletin. He is the precursor of scientific studies of jaguars using photography, which guided the production of the documentary film “Living with the Jaguar”, produced with funding from German Public Television and ARTE TV / France. This was widely shown in Europe and the US, and is based on the Trent’s work in the defense of jaguars. He is the International coordinator of Sustentar, and Research Director and mentor of the Pantanal Wildlife Program. www.bichosdopantanal.org

Douglas is listed in the “Lonely Planet Brazil Guide” as the greatest expert on Brazilian birds an has appeared in an article in Forbes Magazine that recognizes him as the “Birdman of Brazil.”


Roberto Luciano Fortes Fagundes
– Institutional Relations Board

A civil engineer with a Masters in English, Roberto is part owner of Clan Tourism and Hotels CLAN Administration. He is President of the Belo Horizonte Convention & Visitors Bureau and a founding member of the Institute Horizons. He lectures on tourism at events, schools and meetings.

Roberto is a columnist whos writings regularly apprear in the national press. He is the former Deputy State Secretary of Tourism of Minas Gerais, and the former International Government Advisor of Minas Gerais. Roberto is also the former President of the Commercial and Business Association of Minas Gerais – ACMinas; He is the Technical Coordinator of Sustentar.


Jussara Utsch
– President

Jussara is the Associate Director of SCDC Brazil Ltda., and holds a degree in Social Communication with a postgraduate degree in Marketing, Project Management and Responsible Management for Sustainability.

She has extensive experience in developing policies to help the business sector, third sector and government to integrate the principles and practices of sustainable development in the context of business, through projects, partnerships and engaging in stakeholder dialogue on several key issues for sustainability.

She was the Communications Director in CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), linked to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, for 7 years, where she was responsible for communication management and education for sustainable development. It was supported by the Brazilian Committee of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment of the UN. She created and coordinated the TV program Sustainable Brazil, aired on TV Cultura of São Paulo and TV Educativa of Rio de Janeiro, which later led to the Brazil Sustainable magazine. Jussara was responsible for content development and production of books, papers and articles on sustainable development, and has coordinated and produced sustainability reports from companies associated with CEBDS, among others.

She planned, organized and was responsible for the content, promotion and press office of over 400 events jointly working with some of the largest Brazilian companies and institutions. She is the Coordinator of Communication and Sustainable Development of Sustentar, and the General Coordinator of the Pantanal Wildlife Program. www.bichosdopantanal.org.


Mariana Aguiar
– Manager of Special Projects

Mariana is an architect and urban planner, with a post-graduate degree in Environmental Management, Project Management, Responsible Management for Sustainability and a Masters in Business Administration. She has been operating for over 10 years in the environmental management field with eight years in the energy industry in the areas of product design and integrated management systems (quality, environment, occupational health and safety). In the Group Orteng she served as an environmental manager, responsible for strategic management in developing systems to reduce environmental impacts, preparation, coordination and management for compliance with legal and contractual requirements for projects and works. She coordinated environmental teams, integrating people and processes at various levels, was also responsible for the management and implementation of Environmental Systems and Control Programs in civil industrial works and small hydroelectric power plants and transmission lines.
